EMAIL & SMS MARKETING · SAN DIEGO
The Audience You Already Own
Email and SMS programmes for San Diego businesses — strategy, design, copy, automation and reporting. The one channel where you are not renting access to your own customers.

WHY THIS CHANNEL, FIRST
Every Other Channel Is Rented. This One You Own.
Google changes an algorithm and your organic traffic moves. Meta changes its auction and your cost per acquisition moves. An algorithm decides who sees your social posts. In every one of those cases the relationship with your customer is mediated by a company whose interests are not yours.
A list is different. You collected it, you keep it, and nobody can reprice access to it. That is why we push most clients to build the list from day one, and why we treat email and SMS as infrastructure rather than a campaign channel.
It is also, reliably, the cheapest revenue in the mix — selling again to someone who already bought costs a fraction of finding someone new, and most businesses are sitting on a list they have never properly used.
WHAT WE RUN
Email and SMS Marketing Services
Six parts. Most engagements start with list health and automation, because that is where the money already is.

Newsletters & Campaigns
On-brand templates, written by people, sent on a schedule your audience can predict. Consistency does more for open rates over a year than any subject-line trick.

SMS Marketing
Near-total open rates and an unforgiving audience. Used well for time-sensitive things — a table freeing up, a same-day offer, an event reminder. Used badly it is the fastest unsubscribe in marketing.

Automation & Flows
Welcome series, abandoned cart, post-visit follow-up, win-back and birthday flows. Built once, earning continuously — for most clients the automated flows out-earn the broadcast campaigns.

List Health & Segmentation
Cleaning, suppression, re-permissioning and segmentation. Sending to everyone is how deliverability dies — and a list that lands in spam is worth nothing regardless of how large it is.

Deliverability
SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured properly, sender reputation monitored, and warm-up done when it is needed. This is the unglamorous layer that decides whether any of the rest arrives.

Reporting
Opens, clicks, conversions and revenue per send — with the caveat that Apple Mail Privacy Protection has made open rate a soft metric since 2021. We lead with clicks and revenue for that reason.
HOW IT RUNS
The Formula for Email and SMS
Four stages. Most clients see the automation revenue first, usually inside 60 days.
01. Audit
List health, past performance, deliverability records and what is already automated. Usually the first finding is that half the list has not been mailed in a year.
02. Build
Templates, segments and the core flows. Automation before broadcast — it earns while you sleep and it does not need a monthly idea.
03. Send
Campaigns scheduled and deployed, deliverability watched, and the calendar tuned to how often your audience actually wants to hear from you.
04. Refine
Subject lines, timing, segmentation and offers tested monthly. Small compounding gains on a channel you own beat big swings on one you rent.
LOCAL LISTS BEHAVE DIFFERENTLY
Email and SMS for San Diego Businesses
A local list is small, personal and unforgiving. Your subscribers can drive to you, many of them have met you, and they will notice immediately if the tone changes or the sending gets greedy. That is an advantage most national brands would pay for — and it is easily wasted by mailing a 6,000-person local list like a 600,000-person national one.
For restaurants and venues, SMS around service and events consistently outperforms email. For B2B and professional services it is the reverse, and the nurture flow does most of the work. We build to whichever you actually are.
Email works best fed by the rest of the mix — list growth from organic traffic and paid, content from the same studio that shoots your social, and capture forms on a site built to collect them.
We work with businesses across Downtown, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Chula Vista, Oceanside, Escondido and Coronado — the full list is on our service areas page.

QUESTIONS
Email & SMS Marketing FAQs
How much does email marketing management cost?
Our retainers run from about $1,500 to $6,000 a month depending on send volume, how much original design and copy is involved, and whether we are building automation from scratch. Platform fees (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Attentive and similar) are billed to you directly rather than marked up.
Which platform do you use?
Klaviyo for ecommerce, Mailchimp or Constant Contact for simpler needs, Attentive or Postscript for SMS at volume. We will work in whatever you already have if it is capable — migrating platforms is a real cost and not always worth paying.
Is open rate still a useful metric?
Only loosely. Apple Mail Privacy Protection has pre-loaded images since 2021, which inflates opens for a large share of any list. We report it for trend but judge performance on clicks, conversions and revenue per send. An agency leading its report with open rate is choosing the flattering number.
How often should we send?
For most local businesses, two to four times a month plus automated flows. The right answer is set by unsubscribe and complaint rates rather than a rule — and sending less than monthly is its own problem, because the list forgets who you are and starts marking you as spam.
What is the difference between campaigns and flows?
Campaigns are one-off sends to a segment. Flows are automated and triggered by behaviour — a welcome series, an abandoned cart, a post-visit follow-up. For most of our clients the flows quietly out-earn the campaigns, which is why we build them first.
Can you help grow our list?
Yes — capture forms, incentives, in-venue signup and integration with your booking or point-of-sale system. We do not buy lists, and neither should you: purchased addresses wreck deliverability for the addresses you legitimately own.
Is SMS worth it for our business?
If your offer is time-sensitive and local, usually yes. Restaurants, venues, events and retail see strong returns. Considered B2B purchases rarely justify the intrusion. SMS also carries stricter consent rules than email, so it needs setting up properly rather than quickly.
What about spam laws and consent?
Email is governed by CAN-SPAM and SMS by the TCPA, which is considerably stricter and carries real penalties. We set consent capture up correctly, keep records of it, and honour opt-outs immediately. This is the part of the channel most likely to cost you money if it is done casually.
Why did our emails start going to spam?
Usually authentication (SPF, DKIM or DMARC missing or wrong), a sudden volume spike, or sending to a stale list that generates complaints. All three are fixable, but reputation recovers slowly — which is the argument for list hygiene before you need it.
Do you write the emails?
Yes — copy, design and build, in-house. You approve the calendar and the content before anything sends.
Start With a List Audit
Send us access and we will tell you how healthy the list is, what is already automated, and where the easy revenue is. Most audits find it in the flows nobody built.
