PRINT & COLLATERAL · SAN DIEGO

The Part of Your Brand People Actually Hold

Menus, signage, packaging, direct mail and collateral — designed, specified and produced in San Diego, on brand and on the date you gave the printer.

STRAIGHT ANSWER FIRST

Almost Nobody Searches for This. It Still Matters.

We will be honest about what this page is. Nobody in San Diego is googling “menu design” at volume, and we are not going to pretend otherwise by padding this page with keywords.

It exists because print is a real part of what we do and a real part of whether a brand works. A restaurant guest holds your menu for eleven minutes. A site visitor sees your signage before they see your website. A packaging decision is on a shelf for years. Those are not small surfaces.

Most of this work comes from clients we already run marketing for. If that is you, this is what we can produce and how we price it.

WHERE PRINT PROJECTS GO WRONG

The File Was Fine. The Paper Was Wrong.

Most print problems are not design problems. They are specification problems: a stock that shows every fingerprint on a menu, a coating that kills the colour the brand depends on, an ink that scuffs in a delivery box, a sign printed for interior light and hung facing west.

Digital work is forgiving. You publish, you notice, you fix it. Print is a thousand copies of a decision you cannot take back, which is why the specification conversation matters more than the design review.

So we specify as well as design: stock, weight, finish, coating, bindery, colour management and proofing. And we work with San Diego printers we have used for years, because the press check is where the money is saved.

WHAT WE PRODUCE

Print & Collateral Services

Six categories. For most clients this starts with one urgent item and grows into a managed reprint cycle.

Printed restaurant menu and collateral samples

Menus & Hospitality Print

Menus, wine and cocktail lists, table cards, takeout and delivery packaging. Designed for the way they are actually used — low light, wet hands, seasonal reprints and a price change three weeks after launch. Common on our restaurant accounts.

Environmental signage and wayfinding in a San Diego venue

Signage & Environmental

Exterior signs, wayfinding, window graphics, vehicle wraps and event build. Specified for the light, weather and viewing distance they will actually live in.

Packaging design and production samples

Packaging & Labels

Retail packaging, labels, boxes and inserts, with dielines, substrate and compliance handled. Built off the identity system so it matches everything else — see branding.

Direct mail campaign production and targeting

Direct Mail

Design, list, print and mailing, including EDDM for local radius work. Still effective for local offers precisely because so few people bother — and it pairs well with a matched digital layer.

Business stationery and brand collateral design

Stationery & Collateral

Business cards, letterheads, folders, sell sheets, brochures, gift cards and loyalty pieces. The everyday items that quietly tell somebody how seriously you take yourself.

Large format and event print production

Large Format & Event

Banners, backdrops, step-and-repeat, booth graphics, posters and out-of-home. Produced to deadline for launches and activations run by our event and PR teams.

HOW A PRINT JOB RUNS

The Formula for Print

Four stages. Two to four weeks for most jobs; large format and packaging need longer, and rush work costs more for a reason.

01. Specify

What it is for, where it lives, how long it has to last and what it has to survive. Stock, finish and format decided here.

02. Design

Artwork built to the identity system, with the practical constraints — bleed, fold, legibility at distance, reprint flexibility — designed in.

03. Proof & Press

Digital proof, hard proof where colour is critical, and a press check on anything where getting it wrong means reprinting the lot.

04. Deliver & Reorder

Delivered to the site, with files and specifications archived so a reprint in eight months is a phone call rather than a project.

THE ARGUMENT FOR BOTHERING

Print Got Quiet, Which Is Exactly Why It Works

Almost every agency quietly dropped print over the last decade because it is harder to scale, harder to attribute and impossible to A/B test. The effect is that the physical surfaces around a business are now the least contested space it owns.

We kept it. Partly because our hospitality clients need menus and signage every season regardless of what is fashionable, and partly because a well-made physical object still does something to how a brand is judged that no impression count captures. We wrote about that at more length in Pioneering Print Design in the Digital Age.

LOCAL PRODUCTION, LOCAL PRESS CHECKS

You Cannot Press Check a Job Over Email

The reason we keep production local is unglamorous: somebody has to stand at the press when the colour is critical, and somebody has to drive the reprint to the venue when a menu price changes the day before a launch.

We are at 770 First Avenue downtown and we have used the same San Diego printers and fabricators for years. That relationship is what turns a rush job from a crisis into a phone call, and it is not something an online print portal can replicate at any price.

It also means we can hold your artwork, specifications and stock choices on file, so seasonal reprints do not start from scratch every time.

The studio also handles branding and identity, photo and video production, integrated campaigns, content marketing and web design — most engagements use two or three of them together.

We work with businesses across Downtown, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Chula Vista, Oceanside, Escondido and Coronado — the full list is on our service areas page.

QUESTIONS

Print Services FAQs

Do you print in-house or outsource?

We design, specify, proof and project-manage; the printing itself is done by San Diego print partners and fabricators we have worked with for years. We are not marking up a portal order — the value is the specification and the press check, and we will happily print through your existing supplier if you have one you trust.

How much does print work cost?

Design is usually $500 to $3,500 per item depending on complexity, with a set of related collateral priced together. Production is quoted separately and varies enormously with quantity, stock and finish — the same menu can differ threefold on paper choice alone. You see the print quote, not a hidden margin.

How long does a print job take?

Two to four weeks for standard collateral from brief to delivery. Packaging, large format and anything needing a hard proof or fabrication takes longer. Rush is possible and it costs more, which is a real production cost rather than a penalty.

Can you just handle production if we have the design?

Yes. We will preflight the files first and tell you what will cause problems — bleed, resolution, colour space, fold allowances. That check costs almost nothing and prevents the expensive kind of surprise.

Do you do restaurant menus?

Frequently — it is one of the most common jobs we run. The design questions are specific: how the menu reads in low light, where the eye lands, how you reprint when three prices change, and whether the stock survives a service. Menu engineering sits alongside this on the restaurant marketing side.

Is direct mail still worth doing?

For local offers and hospitality, often yes — partly because so few businesses bother that the mailbox is less contested than the inbox. It works best with a tight radius, a genuine offer and a matched digital layer so the same message shows up in both places. It is a poor tool for broad awareness.

Can you match our brand colours exactly?

As closely as the process allows, and we will be straight about the limits. Screen colour and print colour are different systems; some brand colours are unreachable in CMYK and need a spot colour, which costs more. We flag that at specification stage rather than at delivery.

Do you handle signage and vehicle wraps?

Yes — exterior signage, wayfinding, window graphics, vehicle wraps and event build, with the fabrication handled by local partners. Permits for exterior signage are the client's responsibility but we will tell you when one is needed, which is more often than people expect.

Can you store our files for reprints?

Yes, and we do it as standard. Artwork, specifications, stock and finish are archived so a reorder is a phone call. It is a small thing that saves a surprising amount of money over a few years.

Do you work with clients who only need print?

Yes, though most of this work comes from clients we already run marketing for. If print is all you need, that is a legitimate project and we will scope it as one — we will just be upfront that the brand work underneath it is what makes the print worth printing.

What Are You Reprinting Next?

Menus, signage, packaging, a mailer. Tell us what it is, roughly how many and when you need it, and we will come back with a specification and a real number rather than a range.
