SAN DIEGO SEO COMPANY

San Diego SEO, Run by the People Who Sold It to You

No account coordinators, no offshore content mill, no 40-slide deck that avoids the one number you care about. You get the senior people who pitched the work, doing the work, and telling you plainly what moved and what did not.

MEASURED, NOT CLAIMED

What Actually Happened to Our Clients Last Year

Pulled from Google Search Console on 27 August 2026, comparing July 2026 against July 2025 — the same calendar month, so seasonality is not doing the work. These are aggregate figures across our hospitality portfolio.

8.7Places Gained, Avg. Position
97%Higher Click-Through Rate
9%More Organic Clicks
45%Fewer Impressions (Industry-Wide)

That last number is not a typo and it is not our doing. Google served 45% fewer impressions to these sites as AI Overviews took over the top of the results page through 2026. It happened to almost everyone. We moved our clients up the page fast enough that they finished the year with more clicks from less than half the visibility. Any agency still selling you impression growth in 2026 either is not looking at the data or is hoping you are not.

WHY US, HONESTLY

The Biggest Agency in San Diego Is Not Going to Give You Its Best People

That is not a slight. It is arithmetic. An agency with several hundred staff wins your account with senior people and services it with junior ones, because that is the only way the model works. The person you were impressed by in the pitch has forty other accounts.

We are deliberately small. The people who audit your site are the people who present the results, and you can get any of them on the phone. When something is not working — and in SEO something is always not working — you hear it from us before you find it yourself.

The trade is real and worth stating: we will not staff a national rollout across 1,500 locations next quarter. If that is your problem, hire someone bigger. If your problem is that nobody at your current agency can explain why traffic moved, that is exactly what we are for.

WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO

San Diego SEO Services

Six disciplines, all in-house. Most engagements lean hard on two or three of them — the audit tells us which.

Developer running a technical SEO audit on a San Diego business website

Technical SEO

Crawl budget, index bloat, Core Web Vitals, schema, redirect chains, JavaScript rendering. The unglamorous layer that decides whether anything else you do can work. Most sites we inherit are leaking here and nobody has looked.

Keyword & Market Research

Which searches actually end in a booking, what your competitors already own, and where the gaps are. We map every target to a page and tell you which terms are not worth chasing — usually the ones you were most attached to.

Content That Earns Its Place

Written by people, briefed from the SERP, built to answer the question better than whatever currently ranks. We publish less than most agencies and update more, because refreshing a page that already ranks beats publishing a new one that never will.

Digital PR & Link Building

Earned placements in publications your customers actually read, local partnerships, and coverage our PR team lands directly. No private blog networks, no paid link lists, nothing you would be uncomfortable explaining to Google.

Local SEO & Google Business Profile

Map pack rankings, review velocity, GBP posts, citation consistency and location pages. Roughly a quarter of the local traffic we see arrives through Google Business Profile rather than the website — and it is the half most agencies quietly ignore.

Monthly SEO performance report showing organic growth for a San Diego client

Reporting You Can Argue With

GA4 and Search Console configured properly, conversions tracked to revenue where the data allows, and a monthly report that shows the metrics that went down as well as the ones that went up. If a number moved and we cannot explain why, we say so.

THE THING THAT CHANGED

Ranking First Is No Longer the Same as Being Found

In 2026 a large share of searches never produce a click at all. Google answers the question at the top of the page, ChatGPT and Perplexity answer it without a page, and the blue link you fought for sits below the fold. Our own client data shows it plainly: impressions down 45% year over year, on sites whose rankings improved.

The response is not to give up on rankings. It is to make sure that when an answer engine assembles a response about restaurants in the Gaslamp or hotels in La Jolla, your business is one of the sources it draws on — and that the searches which do still produce clicks convert at a much higher rate than they used to. That is why we report click-through rate as prominently as position.

We do this work under the name AI search optimization: entity and schema markup, answer-first content structure, citation building, and monitoring which assistants mention you and which mention a competitor instead.

HOW AN ENGAGEMENT RUNS

Our SEO Process

Most clients see meaningful movement between month four and month six. Anyone promising you week six is selling something else.

01. Audit

Two weeks inside your analytics, your crawl and your competitors' rankings. You get the findings whether or not you hire us for the work.

02. Priorities

A ranked plan: what we fix first, what it should move, and how long before you can judge it. Anything we cannot forecast honestly gets labelled as a bet.

03. Fix

Technical debt cleared, templates and internal linking rebuilt, the pages that already rank strengthened before any new ones get written.

04. Build

Content, digital PR and local signals, compounding month over month. This is the part that takes time and the part agencies quietly under-resource.

05. Report

Monthly, with the losses included, and a live call where you can push back on any number in the deck.

LOCAL SEARCH, LOCALLY RUN

SEO for San Diego, From an Office in San Diego

Local search here is not one market. A Gaslamp restaurant fights for a map pack against forty competitors inside half a mile; a Poway contractor fights for a county-wide term against three. The tactics that win those two are not the same, and an agency working from a template applies the same one to both.

We are at 770 First Avenue downtown. We have run search for hotels in La Jolla, restaurants in the Gaslamp and Escondido, law firms in Mission Valley, contractors across North County and B2B technology in Kearny Mesa — which mostly means we already know who you are up against and what they have not bothered to fix.

SEO also does not work in isolation from the site it runs on. Where the build is the constraint we say so and fix it — that is the same team that handles web design and development.

We publish dedicated pages for Downtown, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Chula Vista, Oceanside, Escondido, El Cajon, La Mesa, San Marcos, Vista, Poway, Temecula and Murrieta — or start at the full service-area index.

QUESTIONS

San Diego SEO FAQs

How much does SEO cost in San Diego?

Our retainers run from $2,500 to $9,000 a month depending on how competitive your market is and how much content and digital PR the plan needs. A single-location restaurant sits near the bottom; a multi-location group or a law firm in a contested practice area sits near the top. Anyone quoting under about $1,500 a month for a competitive San Diego term is selling you hours that cannot possibly move it.

How long before I see results from SEO?

Technical fixes can show up in four to eight weeks. Content and authority take longer — most of our clients see meaningful movement between month four and month six, and the compounding shows up in months nine to eighteen. If someone promises page one in 30 days, ask them which keyword, and watch them pick one nobody searches.

Do you require a long-term contract?

No. We work on a rolling monthly agreement with 30 days' notice. SEO does need time to work, and we will tell you honestly when you are judging it too early, but locking you in is how agencies stop having to earn the renewal.

Who actually works on my account?

The people who pitched it. We are deliberately small, so the strategist who audits your site is the one who presents your monthly report and the one who answers when you call. There is no account-coordinator layer between you and the work.

Do you do local SEO and Google Business Profile management?

Yes, and for most San Diego service businesses it is the highest-leverage thing we do. Map pack position, review velocity, GBP posts, citation consistency and location pages. On the local businesses we measure, roughly a quarter of traffic arrives through Google Business Profile rather than the website — you cannot see that in GA4, which is why it gets ignored.

My impressions dropped in 2026. Is my SEO failing?

Probably not. Across our own client portfolio, impressions fell about 45% year over year while rankings improved, because AI Overviews now answer a large share of searches at the top of the page. The metrics that still mean something are average position, click-through rate and conversions. Our clients finished that same year with more organic clicks from less than half the impressions.

What is AI search optimization, and do I need it?

It is making sure answer engines — Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini — cite your business when someone asks them a question you should be the answer to. In practice that means entity and schema markup, answer-first content structure, and citation building. If your customers research before they buy, yes. Read more on our AI search optimization page.

How do you build links?

Earned placements through our in-house PR team, local partnerships and sponsorships, genuinely useful resources that attract citations, and digital PR campaigns. We do not buy links, use private blog networks, or place guest posts on sites that exist only to sell links. Those work until they abruptly do not, and the recovery costs more than the links saved.

How do you report results?

A monthly report and a live call. The report shows position, click-through rate, organic clicks, conversions and what we shipped — including the metrics that went down. If a number moved and we cannot explain why, we write that instead of picking a different number.

Can you do SEO on a website you did not build?

Most of our SEO clients came to us with a site someone else built. We audit it first. Sometimes the honest answer is that the platform or the build is the ceiling, and we will tell you that before you spend a year of retainer discovering it. Where a rebuild is the right call our web development team handles it.

Do you offer a free SEO audit?

Yes, and it is a real one — a human looking at your crawl, your rankings and your competitors, not an automated PDF with a made-up score out of 100. You get the findings whether or not you hire us.

Do you work with businesses outside San Diego?

We do. Most clients are in San Diego County, from Oceanside to Chula Vista, plus Temecula and Murrieta in southwest Riverside County. We also run national campaigns. The process is the same; only the competitive research changes.

Start With the Audit

We will look at your crawl, your rankings and the three competitors beating you, and tell you what is actually holding the site back. If the answer is that you do not need an agency yet, that is what we will say.
